Directions: In your group of three (the same groups that you are using for your powerpoint on Indonesian Humor) you will be designing and drawing a cartoon that makes use of wordplay - the use of words and their meanings for intended purposes. You will use a visual picture in connection with a pun, an oxymoron, dialogue or another type of wordplay.
- You must include a caption to accompany your cartoon. This caption can be a line of dialogue, or a statement that summarizes the joke or picture.
-You can accomplish this in one of several ways, (please read over the examples below)
-You will also need to type and print out a one paragraph reason / rationale that explains your picture and your use of wordplay (what kind of device you used - pun, oxymoron- and why). Describe your creative choices and their intended effect upon a viewer. This paragraph should be cut out and attatched to the back of your cartoon.
The examples below are mean to help you: please read them over.

Visual Pun - In this example, two meanings are employed for the phrase 'the tables are turned' (the phrase means that 'a situation has been reversed' and in this case, that the tables in the room are literally turned upsidown.) The visual picture has a villain-like character and the caption is a line of dialogue that this character has just spoken.
A caption can also be a short sentence that explains the pun. (in this case - 'steamed' means both 'cooked' and 'angry' - hence the joke steamed vegetables.)
A visual pun - bunny ears.
Dramatic Irony - we (the viewer) know something that the character looking for her puppy does not. Our knowledge is the source of the joke.
A caption for this one might be "Convenient store," which would make it an oxymoron.
